Federal law enforcement agents deploy pepper balls and tear gas during a standoff with anti-ICE protesters outside a Chicago facility.
Federal agents have used pepper balls (projectiles that release pepper spray) and tear gas to disperse protesters outside an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) facility in Broadview, a suburb of Chicago.
The confrontation began after some protesters attempted to block a vehicle’s path near the building.
Although only a few were close to the fence or roadway, many in the crowd further back were affected by the chemical agents.
The local mayor and others criticized the deployment of the chemicals, saying it endangered residents and first responders, and that the fence around the facility hindered access for emergency services
