Dhaka experiences highest temperature in this season
Dhaka experienced the hottest weather of this season on Thursday, making the city life miserable in the holy month of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, the actual temperature felt much more as the humidity in the air was 30 per cent less than the usual one. The situation caused people's suffering further in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Dhaka witnessed a similar temperature in 2021.
The swelling temperature that has been sweeping the country may continue for few more days as meteorologists feared no major temperature fall or rainfall before April 24, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Md Monowar Hossain, meteorologist at the BMD, told the Financial Express (FE) that the city witnessed a scorching temperature of 39.5 on Thursday. Dhaka witnessed a similar hot weather in 2021 and back in 2014 the city saw 40.2 ºC.
Meteorologists feared to deepen the woes to the people’s life amid, including in Dhaka where the growing traffic have halted city life.
The country on Thursday also experienced this season's highest temperature, 41ºC, in Chuadanga as the district is gasping for the highest temperature for the last 12 consecutive days.
“The prevailing mild to moderate heat wave over the country is likely to continue during the week starting from 10 April,” according to the met office weather alert.
Md Omar Faruq, meteorologist at the met office, told the FE on Thursday that the temperature may rise further in the next few days until 16 April.
“The ongoing heat wave is likely to continue till April 24. After that, the temperature may drop and there is a possibility of rainfall in Dhaka and other parts of the country. The city is likely to witness a little temperature fall and rainfall after 16 April and,” he added.
Rajshahi city last year saw 41.2 ºC, he added.
Meteorologists feared that the temperature may rise to over 40 degrees and the heat wave may intensify.
In the next 24-hour weather forecast on Thursday morning, a mild to moderate heat wave is flowing over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and it may continue. Along with this, day and night temperatures may increase slightly across the country.
Besides, the low pressure area is located over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal normal low pressure is located over South Bay of Bengal. In this situation, the weather of the whole country may remain dry with partly cloudy skies.
